🏥 Step 2 of 3 · School Impact Screening

Koolen-de Vries Syndrome (KdVS)

Individuals with this profile typically present with mild to moderate intellectual disability and delayed developmental milestones, particularly in walking and talking. A hallmark of this presentation is a significant expressive language delay, where the individual understands much more than they can verbally communicate. Physically, low muscle tone (hypotonia) often impacts movement, coordination, and the development of both fine and gross motor skills. Behaviorally, they are characterized by a very friendly, sociable, and affectionate personality, though they may face hurdles such as attention difficulties similar to ADHD, anxiety, emotional sensitivity, and various visual-spatial or processing challenges.
